2006 Midwest Express: Fun Had By All
On August 12-14, 2006 RTC's Midwest Region hosted an exciting new bike tour: the Midwest Express. This three-day ride showcased Ohio's emerging North Coast Inland Trail from the Indiana state line east to Oberlin. The Express will included rail-trails and road riding. Limited to 250 people, the ride featured a flat countryside tour through small towns in Northern Ohio. Riders experienced rail-trails in many stages of development—from grass-covered to cinder to asphalt-paved corridors.
Midwest Express averaged 50 flat miles a day through such towns as Fremont, Oberlin and Swanton. Heading eastward, pedalers enjoyed a fully supported ride with many opportunities to refuel, renew and refresh their bodies and spirits. Members of local trail groups along the route were on hand to provide historical information and wonderful trail building lore.
