Trail Description:
The Coyote Creek Trail is a 15-mile, multi-use trail that runs through the heart of San Jose. The trail meanders next to Coyote Creek and provides access to four main urban parks, several schools, and other community destinations. In addition to being an important part of San Jose's ambitious city-wide trail network, it is also a significant regional connector, linking San Jose to the San Francisco Bay and the Bay Area Ridge Trail, a 500-mile regional trail system. The trail is partially completed, with remaining segments in the planning process. Work on a half-mile extension from Los Lagos Golf Course to Tully Road on the north end of the trail is scheduled begin in October 2008 and should be open to the public by August 2009.

Project Description:
Rails-to-Trails Conservancy (RTC) partnered with the city of San Jose on the successful application of an Environmental Justice Grant, which provided planning funding for the project. The planning team, which included RTC and Callander Associates, relied heavily on community input to prepare a feasibility study for the Coyote Creek Trail. The city of San Jose used the feasibility study as a tool for developing the master plan, and as a guide for construction of the trail.
