Active Transportation

A central piece of Rails-to-Trails Conservancy's (RTC) advocacy efforts center around active transportation, i.e., travel powered by human energy. Walking and biking are the most common active transportation examples.

On the federal level, RTC advocates for improved active transportation by lobbying elected officials, making the case for increased active transportation and presenting national benefits, and empowering and enabling our online supporters to speak up when the opportunity presents itself.

Locally, RTC provides technical assistance, best practices, and helps communities access funding for improved active transportation infrastructure. With a broad and well-connected network of local partners around the country, RTC is able to look to examples across the country to help address challenges to more and better active transportation.
