RTC Secures $1.3 Billion for Active Transportation in House Recovery Bill

Since last updating you on Rails-to-Trails Conservancy's (RTC) efforts to secure explicit funding for walking and biking in the federal economic recovery package, much has happened.
On January 28, the House of Representatives passed a bill that included explicit funding for more than $1.3 billion for active transportation!
This tremendous step forward was aided by our members and supporters. More than 15,000 of you have now signed RTC's petition calling on Congress to explicitly fund walking and biking in the economic recovery package. Thank you!
Additionally, working with our partners, RTC gathered more than $3.4 billion in ready-to-go bicycle and pedestrian projects that would not only create jobs, but would also create long-term economic benefits. RTC shared both the petition and project lists with Congress and made the strong case that Americans want more active transportation. Such substantial funding moves our nation toward a more balanced transportation system and simultaneously addresses many of our most pressing concerns.

After our success in the House, the struggle now moves to the Senate where we are working to ensure that as much, if not more, funding for active transportation is provided in their version of the bill.

We hope you join us in celebrating this victory, and please stay tuned—as this bill is debated in the Senate, we may call on you again to make your voice heard for active transportation.
