Rail-Trail Project: East Central Regional Rail-Trail, Volusia, Seminole & Brevard Counties
Length: 49 miles
Endpoints: Titusville to Enterprise and Maytown to Edgewater
In order to facilitate regional trails and coordination among governmental agencies, the East Central Florida Regional Planning Council organized a Regional Greenway and Trail Workgroup. The workgroup established a potential regional system of trails by compiling county plans and producing a regional map. One of the potential rail-trail corridors is the inactive Florida East Coast(FEC) rail line from Titusville/Mims in Brevard County to Enterprise in Volusia County and Maytown to Edgewater. The rail-trail with a total length of more than 40 miles, will connect Brevard, Volusia and Seminole counties. Within reach of the corridor lie some of Florida's unique natural areas, such as the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge, Canaveral National Seashore, St. Johns River, Buck Lake Conservation Area, Green Spring and Gemini Springs. This railroad right-of-way provides an opportunity to preserve linear park systems, facilitate the movement of wildlife and provide an alternative route for transportation.
