| | Clean Ohio Fund Set for Renewal on November Ballot
The Clean Ohio Fund is a bond-funded pool of money that, to date, has pumped more than $169.6 million into Ohio's recreational trails and green space conservation. Supported by a bipartisan coalition of Ohio leaders, including Gov. Ted Strickland, Lt. Gov. Lee Fisher, House Speaker Jon Husted, Senate President Bill Harris and U.S. Senators Sherrod Brown and George Voinovich, the Clean Ohio Campaign is now working to have the program reauthorized by voters this November—not as a new tax, but as a renewal of an existing bond program.
The Clean Ohio Fund has touched many parts of Ohio, from the Alum Creek Greenway Trail  in Franklin County, to the Ohio to Erie Trail in Hamilton County, and the Ohio and Erie Towpath Trail in Cuyahoga County. In addition to providing trail and green space financing, the fund also includes money for agricultural easement purchase and the restoration and revitalization of polluted areas in the state.
"The Clean Ohio program is the final, critical piece of the $1.57 billion bipartisan economic stimulus package," says Governor Strickland. "We know Clean Ohio will be successful because the program has produced such great results for Ohioans. The Clean Ohio program has led to the redevelopment of abandoned and polluted sites, spurred significant private sector investment in our communities and created jobs throughout the state."
