Prepared for:
Fairfield Heritage Trail Association

Partners:
City of Lancaster; Lancaster School
Board; Lancaster Park Board;
Fairfield County Commissioners;
Fairfield County Historical Parks

Trail Description:
This planned 80-mile network of trails will connect parks, schools, a senior center, shopping malls, restaurants, and communities, and will establish an east-west corridor across rapidly growing Fairfield County in Central Ohio. This trail will eventually connect many historical, cultural, and natural points of interest, including the beautiful Lancaster Heritage District, Cenci Lake Park, Shallenberger State Nature Preserve, and the Ohio University Lancaster branch campus. It also will provide critical connectors between trail systems in central and southern Ohio.

Project Description:
Rails-to-Trails Conservancy's (RTC) association with the project began in 1999. RTC has participated in steering committee organization, community outreach initiatives including town meetings for stakeholders and adjacent land owners, identification of funding sources, review of grant proposals, and marketing support, such as inclusion of the project in the Ohio Trails and Greenways Guidebook.
