Gearing Up for the Greenway Sojourn: February Update
Return to the 2007 Greenway Sojourn Main Page
There may be snow on the trail right now, but Greenway Sojourn 2007, June 23-30, is not long off, and Rails-to-Trails Conservancy is busily preparing for it. By February 15 approximately 200 riders had signed up for this Washington, D.C., to Pittsburgh trek, with an influx of registrations expected before the fee goes up March 1. Don't miss out by waiting too long. The 335-mile trail ride featuring the C&O Canal Towpath and the Great Allegheny Passage closes at 500 cyclists.
Overnight Locations Solidifying Among important developments, all overnight locations have been chosen, and none too soon—the Northeast Regional Office is already getting calls from participants who want to reserve motel or bed-and-breakfast accommodations near the trail instead of camping. Overnight stops are as follows:
- Saturday, June 23 Rileys Lock area near Seneca, Md.
- Sunday, June 24 Harpers Ferry, W.Va..
- Monday, June 25 Williamsport, Md.
- Tuesday, June 26 Little Orleans, Md.
- Wednesday, June 27 Cumberland, Md.
- Thursday, June 28 Confluence, Pa.
- Friday, June 29 Cedar Creek Park (Westmoreland County), Pa.
Need Camping Equipment? If you'd like to camp but lack equipment, or are flying in and want to travel light, check out the Sojourn's newest vendor: REI (Recreational Equipment, Inc.) rents tents, sleeping bags, and Therm-A-Rest pads. Their Pittsburgh store is conveniently located near Station Square, the launching point for shuttle buses to the ride's start in Washington, D.C. Call REI Pittsburgh (412-488-9410) for details and to reserve equipment. The store is open on Friday night until 9 p.m. for pick-up. Other store locations can be found by visiting the REI Web site.
Remember, if you want to go the deluxe route, we also offer "Pampering." Bubba's Pampered Pedalers is a new vendor this year. See our Vendor Services section for more information.
