With more than 100 open trails, and nearly the same number under development, the focus of trail-building in Pennsylvania has shifted away from individual trails and on to closing the gaps to create significant trail networks. Several of these are highlighted.

The small town of Brockway, Pa. in Jefferson County is quickly becoming the hub of a burgeoning regional trail network. It is also a pilot healthy living community, where Rails-to-Trails Conservancy has helped to develop a walk-to-school program.
