Our Communications Team
RTC’s Communications Department tells the story of the nation’s trails, walking and bicycling movement—inspiring activism, encouraging policy change and motivating people to be active outside on America’s trails. Through social media (@railstotrails), online engagement (railstotrails.org), our quarterly magazine, news media and events, we engage with RTC’s diverse audiences, including trail enthusiasts and those discovering the joy of trails for the first time, lawmakers, trail builders and partners nationwide.
This position is located in RTC’s national office in downtown Washington, D.C., and is easily accessible from Metro’s red, orange, silver and blue lines. However, due to COVID-19, all staff are currently telecommuting.
RTC is seeking a Communications Intern to assist with graphic design and product development, as well as the build-out of a photo-archive system for the organization. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Photography and Archive System:
- Collecting and cataloging photos from RTC’s existing file structure before evaluating, tagging and uploading photos to the archive
- Helping to develop best practices and standards to guide ongoing archive use
- Building out archive folder structure as directed
- Minor photo editing
- Assisting in general design needs, including but not limited to: long- and short-form print production design, social media content creation, digital imagery and motion graphics
- Working with Graphic Design Specialist to develop templates, including PowerPoint Presentations, Word documents, social media templates and modular assets to be used by staff
- Assist in designing and producing branded promotional materials
Undergraduate student or young professional in a related field (graphic design, photography, marketing, journalism or communications, preferred). The candidate must have experience with Adobe Creative Cloud applications (Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop; AfterEffects/motion graphics experience a plus). Candidate should have the ability to work independently and have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Normal office setting with low to moderate noise level. We will work with successful applicants to solve technology needs to ensure a positive remote work experience.
