Rails-to-Trails Conservancy (RTC), a nonprofit organization with more than 160,000 members and supporters, is the nation's largest trails organization dedicated to connecting people and communities by creating a nationwide network of public trails, many from former rail lines and connecting corridors. Founded in 1986, RTC’s national office is located in Washington, D.C., with regional offices in California, Florida, Ohio and Pennsylvania.
RTC’s Western office is located in the Historic Central Building in downtown Oakland, across from 12th Street/City Center BART.
Job responsibilities are primarily to provide support for a trail feasibility study, with tasks focused on developing a strategy for public outreach, planning workshops, developing materials and project administration. The position is contractual and will last approximately one year. Funding is currently available for 105 hours total; schedule will vary based on project timeline.
The successful candidate will have: experience leading or supporting outreach activities, strong writing and organizational skills, and competency with graphics software to create outreach materials. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred but not essential.
