RTC is leading voice of the trails, walking and bicycling movement—with a goal to inspire everyone everywhere to use, love and support trails.

We use our national platforms to lift the voices of America’s diverse and passionate trail users, trail builders and advocates—and tell the story of America’s beloved pathways and the transformational impact they make on people’s lives and communities across the country.

Rails to Trails magazine

Rails to Trails is the nation’s premier magazine exploring the country’s remarkable rail-trails, and the latest news and issues in active transportation. Through our quarterly publication, we shine a light on the diverse leaders of our movement, and the iconic and impactful trails that are changing the face of America’s social, economic, environmental and transportation landscape.

RTC’s monthly eNews delivers the latest information and resources for rail-trails and the active transportation movement to hundreds of thousands of people, spreading the word far and wide on how trails and innovative trail polices transform lives and communities.

@RailstoTrails on Social Media

Through our growing and thriving social media community, we engage hundreds of thousands of people who love trails—connecting them with opportunities to engage with trails and advocate for the rail-trail movement.

Share the Trail

With safe outdoor space, including trails, in higher demand than ever before during the COVID-19 pandemic, RTC led a national charge to educate America on safe and responsible trail use and etiquette. Through our Share the Trail campaign and our participation in the Recreate Responsibly Coalition, we engaged hundreds of thousands of Americans on being good trail users—and stewards—while on America’s trails.

Celebrate Trails Day 2020—A Virtual Hit

On April 18, 2020, in quick response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the need for social distancing, RTC transformed our eighth annual Opening Day for Trails to a cross-country all-virtual event: Celebrate Trails @Home. Preserving the spirit of Opening Day, our special home-based celebration brought together dozens of voices from the movement, who shared stories of hope, examples of community resilience in the midst of the pandemic and appreciation for trails everywhere! The live event was a smashing success—generating 95,000+ social media impressions.
