Morris County, N.J., has a diverse network of trails for walkers, runners, cyclists and equestrians. They run the gamut from the urban Traction Line Recreation Trail in Morristown, which parallels a New Jersey Transit commuter rail line, to the wild and scenic Black River Wildlife Management Area Trail.
During 2010, Rails-to-Trails Conservancy (RTC) conducted a study of the users of some of the trails in Morris County under a grant from the F. M. Kirby Foundation. This survey was designed specifically to monitor trail user characteristics and the economic impact of trail visits.
