This project inventories and assesses abandoned and under-utilized rail corridors in order to identify opportunities for trail development in Atlanta and builds from the 1991 study, Abandoned Rail Corridor Assessment Report: Atlanta Metropolitan Area produced by Rails-to-Trails Conservancy (RTC). RTC's trail planning team, in coordination with our partners at the National Park Service Rivers, Trails and Conservation Assistance Program and the study advisory committee, researched, analyzed and produced this report. Information and guidance was gained from the Atlanta City Council President's Office, the city Planning Department, the Metropolitan Area Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA), the PATH Foundation and Fulton County Tax Assessors Office. Railroad companies including CSX and Norfolk Southern were also involved in the report.
