Celebrate Opening Day for Trails With RTC on April 16!

Thousands of people across the country have pledged to get out and celebrate trails on Saturday, April 16, 2016—the nation’s fourth annual Opening Day for Trails.
Rails-to-Trails Conservancy (RTC), in coordination with a variety of partners, is hosting some awesome rides and events in Washington, D.C., Maryland, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Wisconsin and California. Check out the list below for more info and to learn how you can join in the fun.
RTC Regional Events
Be sure to pledge to get out on Opening Day for Trails. You could even win a Fuji bike! And be sure to share your trail outing by posting your stories and photos using the hashtag #RTCOpeningDay.
(Note that in most cases below, individuals who wish to participate in a bike ride must bring their own bikes.)
Northeast – Pennsylvania
*Note that this event begins on Friday, April 15!
Location: Race Street Pier
Address: 173-195 N. Christopher Columbus Blvd., Philadelphia, PA
When: Friday, April 15, 2016, at 11 a.m.
What: Join RTC’s National and Northeast Regional Offices, as well as trail advocates, public leaders and fellow trail enthusiasts for a celebration and unveiling of the new look for the region’s incredible 750-mile Circuit Trails network! Then celebrate all weekend on the Circuit Trails!

Mid-Atlantic – Washington, D.C.
Location: Kingman and Heritage Islands Park
Address: Access the park via the entrance to RFK Stadium Parking Lot 6, 575 Oklahoma Ave., NE, Washington, DC
When: Saturday, April 16, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
What: Join RTC’s National Office, REI and the Washington Area Bicyclist Association on the Anacostia River for a stewardship cleanup event, followed by a bike ride on the Anacostia Riverwalk Trail and lunch in the main meadow of Kingman Island (noon). And be sure to check out REI village!

Mid-Atlantic – Maryland
Location: Jones Falls Trail, Trail Head at Cylburn Arboretum

When: Saturday, April 16, 2016, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
What: Join RTC’s National Office, REI, the Baltimore City Department of Recreation and Parks and Bikemore for a fun-filled day along the Jones Falls Trail (includes morning refreshments, guided tours and free bikes available to borrow).

Location: Cleveland Metroparks CanalWay Center

When: Saturday, April 16, 2016, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
What: Join RTC’s Midwest Regional Office, Cleveland Metroparks, Bike Cleveland, VeloSano and Cleveland Clinic for a fun-filled event including CanalWay Center exhibits, giveaways, trail adventure information and training advice, followed by a 5-mile Family Fun Ride on the Ohio & Erie Canal Trail.
Midwest – Wisconsin
Location: Wehmhoff Jucker Park
Address: 408 E. Washington St., Burlington, WI
When: Saturday, April 16, 2016, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
What: “Trek and Trike the Trails – Opening Day 2016” -- Join RTC, REI and Bike Burlington in celebrating Opening Day 2016! Get out for a ride on your bike, lend a hand with sprucing up the park, learn about biking resources in the community, and more! No registration necessary.

Location: Rich City Rides

What: Join RTC’s Western Regional Office and partners Rich City Rides and Pogo Park for a 15-mile bike ride along the Richmond Greenway. The ride will end at Pogo Park for a fun-filled hour of activities! This event is made possible by REI.

What: Join RTC’s Western Regional office and partners Rich City Rides and Pogo Park for a 3-mile walk along the Richmond Greenway. The walk will end at Pogo Park for a fun-filled hour of activities! This event is made possible by REI.
