Four Long-Distance Rides Along the Great American Rail-Trail

What better way to experience the beauty of America’s amazingly diverse landscapes than by bicycle? When complete, the Great American Rail-Trail will span some 3,700 miles across 12 states and the District of Columbia, but more than half the route is ready to ride now. Here are four sections of the Great American that span 100 miles or more with minimal on-street connections—perfect for multiday adventuring.

Art Program in Omaha Makes Beautiful Connections on the West Papio Trail

The latest connection on the West Papio Trail brings with it the latest additions to a community-wide effort to spread public art along the Omaha-area trail system. Both can be found beneath a bridge that crosses heavily trafficked Harrison Street.

Nebraska's Cowboy Recreation and Nature Trail

Adventurers, take out your bucket lists and write this one down. Nebraska’s Cowboy Recreation and Nature Trail offers an authentic Old West experience, small towns with genuine, friendly people and picturesque landscapes of the High Plains and pristine prairie. At a whopping 219 miles, it’s already the third longest rail-trail in the country and yet has 100 more miles awaiting future development.

RTC’s Doppelt Fund Helps Move the Needle on Six Rail-Trails in 2017

Today, Rails-to-Trails Conservancy (RTC) announced the recipients of the 2017 Doppelt Family Trail Development Fund grant program, awarding more than $100,000 to enhance or complete multiuse trail projects in six communities across the United States. This year’s projects, which aim to fill gaps in existing trail systems, support expansion and maintenance needs, and measure economic impact, were chosen from a pool of applications totaling $5 million in asks (an increase of nearly $1 million from last year alone)—speaking to the growing demand for trails nationwide.

Nebraska Celebrates New Section of Cowboy Trail in Sheridan County

Thanks to the efforts of Cowboy Trail West, Inc. and the Nebraska Game and Park Commission, three miles (two sections) of the Cowboy Recreation and Nature Trail in Gordon and Rushville have just been completed, culminating in a public dedication on Oct. 3., 2015.
