Starting in 2016, RTC teamed up with Rich City Rides to lead a program called, “Richmond Rides! Bikes, Buses, BART and Breathing!” Supported by the Bay Area Air Quality Management District, our goals were to foster more biking, walking and transit use to help reduce air pollution and improve personal and community health.

CDC Says Few Older Adults Get Enough Physical Activity. Trails Can Help.

In its report released today, Physical Activity Among Adults Aged 50 Years and Older, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) shared some troubling news: more than one in four older Americans are physically inactivity and only 20 percent meet physical activity guidelines. But here’s the good news: Physical activity can help manage the most prevalent chronic conditions, and trails provide the perfect low-stress environments in which to be active.

Keep Going Strong: The Importance of Staying Active as an Older Adult

The biggest principle for fitness is “Use it or lose it,” but research has shown that older adults tend to focus on positivity more than younger adults…so perhaps for this age group, it’s best to say, “Use it and keep going strong!”
