TA Program Structure, Policies, and Procedures
- Application timeline: Please see website for more information.
- TA program structure: Projects must go through a competitive selection process. TA applications are accessible through VDOT’s Smart Portal. Applicants can access program guidance on the Local Assistance website.
- Who is eligible to apply: Local governments, regional transportation authorities, transit agencies, natural resource or public land agencies, school districts or local education agencies, tribal governments, a metropolitan planning organization that serves an urbanized area with a population of 200,000 or fewer; any other local or regional governmental entity with responsibility for or oversight of transportation or recreational trails (other than an ineligible MPO or state agency) that the state determines to be eligible consistent with the goals of 23 U.S.C. 133(h); a State (VDOT), at the request of an eligible entity listed above.
- Application information: The application can be found online, all applicants must first complete a pre-application.
- Is there an advisory committee?: Yes
- Advisory committee members: All applications are reviewed by VDOT staff. Commonwealth Transportation Board members make selections for non-TMA funding
- Project award minimum: None
- Project award maximum: $2.5 million
- Typical local match: 20%
- Matching policies: VDOT allows the use of third-party contributions
