Ajoa Abrokwa, the founder of She Is Focused, is a multisport mom from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She attended Hampton University and Temple University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science, as well as Saint Joseph’s University, where she earned a Master of Science degree in Health Administration and Health Education.
Ajoa discovered early in life the importance of self-preservation and how focusing on physical fitness is an ultimate form of self-care. She emphasizes the importance of health and well-being, especially with regard to women and girls. Her early professional experiences include specializing in maternal and child health, with a focus on women, children, families and communities. Over the past 20 years, she has moved from serving in the public health and community development field—including as a fellow for public health education program initiatives throughout the City of Philadelphia—to leading and implementing change in this area, addressing disparity gaps underscored by the social determinants of health. Her community development and outreach efforts have extended internationally into Ghana, West Africa; Mecca, Saudi Arabia; and Consuelo, Dominican Republic, and she has been the recipient of various healthcare leadership honors and sat on numerous boards.
A lifelong athlete, Ajoa found herself revisiting her love for running in the past several years and has also developed a deep love and connection for cycling—participating in several competitive cycling events, including a triathlon relay with the D.I.S.K. Triathlon Organization and the ToAD Crit Race Series as a recipient of “Thee Abundance Mini Grant.”
Ajoa was featured in the 2021 “Gear of the Year” issue of Bicycling Magazine, and in 2023, Love Now Media created a documentary about her life and her use of cycling to combat the mental challenges of the pandemic, titled “From Quarantine to Q.R.T.”
