Despite the city’s sprawling nature and 680,000 residents, it has a small-town feel, partly due to roughly 90 miles of trails through 10 connected routes. These routes, including the well-loved Oklahoma River Trails, bring people to the neighborhoods, parks, world-class attractions and the flourishing downtown region.

Top 10 Trails in Oklahoma

Posted 09/28/21 by Robert Annis in America's Trails | Tagged with Best Of, Oklahoma, Top10, Trail Destinations

If you’re thinking to yourself, “Oh, what a beautiful morning … for a bike ride or a pleasant hike,” then maybe you should head to Oklahoma. Both Tulsa and Oklahoma City have terrific trail networks, where you can delve into history, enjoy some lovely scenery and get in a nice workout, all at the same time. (By the end of the year, Oklahoma City should have a completed 42-mile trail loop around the city.) Finding greenways longer than a couple of miles can be difficult outside those metropolitan areas, but we’re confident you’ll find Oklahoma’s rail-trails to be truly OK.

Notice: Upcoming Railroad Abandonment in Pawnee County, Oklahoma

Posted 04/09/19 by Rails-to-Trails Conservancy in Building Trails | Tagged with Abandonment Notices, Corridors and Railbanking, Oklahoma

On or about April 5, 2019, BNSF Railroad Company filed for the abandonment of 0.74 mile of track in Pawnee, Pawnee County, Oklahoma. We are providing this information because it presents an opportunity to develop a real regional asset: a multi-use trail that can accommodate hikers, bikers, equestrians and other appropriate uses.

From Trash to Treasure: In Oklahoma, Locals Transform Long Neglected Rail-Trail

Posted 06/07/12 by Laura Stark in Building Trails | Tagged with Local Organizing, Maintenance and Volunteers, Oklahoma, Overcoming Opposition

Cutting through dense woodlands that block the wind and offer shade from the hot Oklahoma sun, the Old Frisco Trail was the ideal place to run. But there was a problem. Long neglected, the trail had become so overgrown and in such disrepair that people began dumping their trash on it from nearby roadways (right), especially on days when the city dump was closed.
