In late 2009 the Friends of Lafitte Corridor secured a $5000 grant through the Urban and Community Forestry Grant Program of the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry, funded by the US Department of Agriculture, to complete an inventory and assessment of trees in the Lafitte Corridor. The grant, completed in September, 2010, involved hiring licensed arborist Lee Stansberry of Bayou Trees to locate and assess tree conditions within the corridor right-of-way and a block on either side of its boundaries, using a GPS-based format. Altogether 3.2 miles were surveyed and 942 trees located.
